Good News

So what exactly does the page title mean when we say Good News?

Well, the simplicity is that it is a message of hope about Jesus, who is what we call the Messiah or Christ.  What this means is that he is the savior and redeemer.

I know that is a lot of “Christian terms” that can be hard to understand. Really what it means is that God loves you. Not only does he love you but he wants to have a relationship with you, personally!

That might sound a little weird, that this God who we believe created everything, including us, wants to have a personal relationship with YOU. Even to say that HE LOVES YOU. It is a hard pill to swallow, as the saying goes.

It is hard to understand how God can value us so much, yet, he does. You have value! That is good news, isn’t it?

The bad news is that we have something in the way of experiencing the relationship that we are meant to have with God. The thing in the way, we call sin. Some people would say that sin is all of the bad things we have done. But it is not entirely accurate.

When we talk about God, we have to try and understand that God is entirely Holy. This means, that he has a purity that we cannot comprehend. It is so far beyond what I believe we can imagine. This is why sin separates us from God, sin cannot come into his presence. In order for us to come into His presence sin has to be removed.

Enter Jesus.

Jesus came for the purpose of removing our sins so that we, you and I, can come into the presence of God.

Jesus paid a debt that you and I owed for our sins. He took our debt upon Himself. So that we, being free from the debt we owe for sin, can come forever, into the presence of God.

Jesus paid the entire debt. We owe nothing. But there is a catch. Here it is. We have to receive the free gift from Him so that his payment can be applied to our sin debt account.

Think of it like this. I could give you a gift for your birthday but it you refuse to receive it, is never yours, and you experience no benefits from the gift.

We must simply receive the free gift that Jesus is offering to us. When we do his payment for our sin is applied to our debt, and our debt is paid in full!

Told, you, Good news!

It is important to know that this is just the beginning of coming into a relationship with God. In much the same way as we were born into our earthly family and had to rely on others, we are in an infantry stage in our new life. We have a lot of growing and learning to do.  Do not let that scare you. God is with you every step of the way. He promises never to leave you.

While there are steps to take, the first step is receiving the free gift. The words are less important than the intent of your heart but you may pray something like this:

God, I believe, I even know that I have done things in my life that could not possibly live up to your Holiness. I believe that I am separated from you because of this stuff. I also believe that Jesus came to pay the debt that I owe and I want to receive that gift he is offering right now. I do not want to wait any longer in my life. I ask that you forgive me for everything that has broken our relationship. I ask that you restore me and help me to have a relationship with you from this moment forward. I know the only reason I can even make such a request is because of the payment that Jesus made on my behalf.  I come in the name of Jesus therefore, and I ask you to forgive me. Teach me to grow from here.

Amen. (means, so be it)
